OVER £400,000 RAISED TO DATE

Money raised by Seriously Good goes to Comic Relief whose work is truly inspiring stuff. Their aim is to bring about real and lasting change in the UK and around the world by tackling the root causes of poverty and social injustice, rather than simply treating the symptoms.

This means Comic Relief makes sure it gives grants to projects on the ground that give people a leg up, not a hand out. It’s this work, and ambition to create a just world free from poverty, that inspired Gordon to create Seriously Good sauces with Comic Relief and visit their life-changing projects – something he continues to do today.

Gordon visits South Africa

One of the trips Gordon went on to see how the money raised by Seriously Good sauces changes lives was to South Africa.

There he visited Grassroots Soccer in Khayelitsha, a township located two hours from Cape Town, even helping them cook up lamb chops for lunch.

The project uses the popularity of soccer to reach at-risk youngsters, break stigmas, raise awareness and change behaviours to stop the spread of HIV and AIDS.

Gordon says, “We played games to show the ripple effect of how quickly HIV spreads – the kids picking up this message in no time.”

Kids Company

In September 2009, Gordon visited Kids Company, a charity partly funded by Comic Relief that provides practical, emotional and educational support to some of the most vulnerable young people in London.

On this visit, Gordon met nine-year-old Patrice. She came to Kids Company after her mother got in touch to see if they could offer her and Patrice support.

Thanks to the help they received from the charity, Patrice and her mother have now been housed and Patrice is far more settled at school and a much happier girl.

Gordon said

“This is something I feel very strongly about. The sauces are phenomenal, there’s no two ways about it. If we can make an ounce of difference to centres like this then it’s worth it.
